Phoenix ~ Phantom of the Paradise

Hey guys,

I am so tired so I'll make this brief.

Instead of cutting and pasting and editing the pictures as I usually do while working on projects, I've just uploaded them to my photobucket for tonight until I have enough time on my hands to put them together in the usual format.

This is just so you know that I do have things underway ( I know the pictures look half finished and such but I'm still so busy finishing everything that I haven't remembered pictures as well as I usually do and things are a bit more updated by now - just these were all I had in the camera while the batteries were working.) I'll have the final finished pictures up tomorrow and Sunday night.

Just go here -> [link]

They're my newest uploads.

As some of you know, my father is still in the hospital (just a different one now) and I have had to work on a lot of the projects alone recently.

Everything will be ready to ship first thing 8 am Monday morning ^_^

I just never planned to get so far behind or that any of this would happen right now. Just bear with me ^_^

Your understanding is appreciated ^_^ I can't wait for everyone to get their props for Otakon.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me as I'll be on and off the computer as much as possible this weekend.

Now I'm going to go and get some shut eye so I can get up early ^_^

My ususal stuff:

Sword/Prop/Contact/Commission Info

EDIT: Yes, we know all of the tips on our first swords are the wrong way. Working on correcting that now. Will not interefere with buying, just the deviation pictures as I am not going to change them. We have also started to add end cap pieces to make them look more finished.

Also, a special thank you to :iconruretto: for hosting my swords in her journal, located here Please, pay her art a visit!

And a huge thank you to :iconchioky: as well for putting a write up about me and the swords in his journal -> here Something I never saw coming haha, but I fully appreciate! Most of my Bleach patterns and such come from his wonderful page. Pay him a visit/watch if you haven't yet.

Hey there. I came across your gunblade and thought maybe you could help. I have two foam swords called Screamers (Product from SleepingSamurai.com) and I wanted to transform them into gunblades. Now, I have a katanna from the same company and the wood they used in it seems sturdy enough, but I have NO idea what it is. I know it's light and sturdy enough to strike someone and not snap. Any ideas? I'm out on a limb and I want to make them before August in time for AFO.

Hey, thanks for contacting me ^_^

Well there are a couple of inexpensive woods that I would recommend using (I use them myself so I know they're fairly trustworthy ^_^).

Aspen comes to mind first (like the 1/4" craft boards from Lowes or Home Depot or sometimes even craft stores) as it is ready to use, light and doesn't splinter as much as others. Really, it feels like holding nothing compared to oaks or plywood. Now, it does tend to be a bit hairy when it is cut at first, but a little sanding takes it right off. It's fairly sturdy for light use, plus it doesn't have much grain so it is pretty hard to snap.

Poplar is another wood I would recommend. The craft boards are pretty inexpensive as the regular, unfinished ones can be pricey. But it is fairly light, easy to work with and sturdy. It can be kind of splintery (easily solved with some sanding), but once again it doesn't have much grain and can take a good amount of wear. I used poplar on the first gunblade I made ^_^

There is Basswood and Balsa wood that can be found in most craft stores, but to buy them in large volumes for whole swords can run up quite a bill. They're easy to work with though, light, and durable. The only thing with them can be the cost and getting long enough boards to work with.

As a last resort there is 1/4" plywood, it is light, pretty durable, just splintery. Though, it sometimes can snap if pieces are cut really thin out of it.

Wood like pine, oak, or maple are heavy, have lots of grain, and can be both expensive and hard to work with.

Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck ^_^
